High 'Street' Musical - showcasing commercial opportunities in Darlington
The following is a news release from Darlington Borough Council.
The tours, hosted by Darlington Borough Council and supported by Carver Commercial, will give people looking to purchase or rent a business venue, the opportunity to explore a number of available premises whilst taking part in a silent-disco. Attendees will then be welcomed to a presentation hosted by the council’s business investment team, which will provide an economic overview of the town and an insight into topics including population, workforce and connectivity. Existing business owners will also be on hand and there will be opportunity to ask questions and network.
The one-of-a-kind tours will take place at 11am and 2pm on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 March and are by appointment only.
Cllr Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy said:
"With extensive public and road transport links, Darlington is a key economic hub. The town boasts over 800 businesses and was named among the best independent high streets in the UK by Holly Tucker, founder of notonthehighstreet. It has also been accredited, for the fifth year in a row, with purple flag status in recognition of our safe and diverse night-time economy.
"Over recent years we have enjoyed significant levels of investment, which has transformed town centre locations and is supporting the regeneration of key gateways to the town. The refurbishment of the indoor market and modernisation works including free town-centre Wi-Fi and the redevelopment of Darlington Library are also helping to support the growing local economy, with the restored historic Hippodrome Theatre and Hullabaloo, the only children’s theatre in the North, attracting visitors from across the region. The opening of a major national visitor destination, HopeTown, is also expected this summer.
“The town has also benefited from the arrival of the Government's economic campus, which to date has brought nearly 800 civil service jobs to the heart of the town centre, with 1500 expected in total.
"We continue to work hard to attract new businesses to the area, and I would encourage anyone who is thinking about launching or relocating their business to consider Darlington. We have everything entrepreneurs and modern businesses need to thrive and succeed. Come and find out why now is the right time to choose Darlington."
