In this upcoming DOT meeting you will hear from Martin Webster from DBC who will chat to us about renewing and improving the 'Developing Darlington' group which is a way for multiple agencies to get together to share training/development opportunities for staff/volunteers etc. A mini conference/planning session will follow for this and an invitation will be extended to the network.  It will also fit in really well with the session planned for after the meeting and the information gathered by our other Guest Speaker.

We will also be joined by Rob Macmillan from Sheffield Hallam University.

Rob is doing some research on the voluntary and community sector in Darlington as part of a larger piece of work across the country.

Rob is working on a national study of ‘local civil society infrastructure’ – the support, advice and services available to local voluntary organisations and community groups. Darlington has been chosen as one of five local areas in the research. Rob is interested to know what support is available and used by Darlington groups. He will introduce the research during the DOT meeting, followed by a roundtable discussion and then some lunch. Join us to share your experiences and views as a voluntary or community group in Darlington – what challenges does your group face? What support and advice can you use?

During the main meeting Rob will give a brief overview of the project and get some feedback from those who are unable to stay, then the meeting will be followed by a half hour break for refreshments and then an hour focus group with Rob and his colleague Cathy.

If you are unable to attend the main meeting, please feel free to pop along at 12-12.30 to join the focus group to share your thoughts.

This will be an opportunity for all of the smaller organisations/groups amongst you to attend and tell them and us, what you would like, what you think is missing and what support you might need from the current voluntary community sector?  What help do you need to support your group to continue and/or thrive?

If you are unable to attend either session but still have comments you would like to feed back to us about the Voluntary Sector, or what your group needs help with or to do going forward, please reply to this email and I will ensure your feedback is included and fed into the work on the day.

As this will be a hybrid meeting, If you cannot attend in person, the Zoom link for the meeting is:
