Community Foundation: Creative activities (Grant – North East)
£500. Individuals. Deadline – 1st May 2023
Grants of up to £500 have been made available for young people, under the age of 24 to take part in culture and creativity by pursuing their artistic ambitions. Grants are available from a number of funds with individual specific criteria that exist to give young people of the North East a chance to experience taking part in creative activities, including The Emma Newton Fund, Dream Jar, The Lady Betty Martin Fund and The George Loggie Fund.

The Teesside Charity - Golden Giveaway (Grant – Teesside)
Up to £5,000. Charities, not-for-profit, community groups and schools. Deadline – 1st May 2023
The Golden Giveaway is open to charitable organisations who benefit the Teesside area (within TS postcodes). £25,000 of funding is available and will be divided between 20 winning organisations across the region, with a top prize of £5,000. Good causes will be featured on the Teesside Charity website from 12th May and the public will be asked to vote for the one they believe deserves the biggest share of the money.

Art Fund Reimagine Grants
£10,000 - £50,000. Not-for-profit organisations. Deadline – 26th May 2023
The key aim for the Reimagine programme in 2023 is to fund projects that will help organisations reimagine their support for the workforce. This can include developing a range of activities that enable you to develop, diversify and sustain the sector, supporting colleagues, volunteers and professional networks in the face of the most pressing challenges. Priority outcomes are:
- Strengthening Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within the sector;
- creating and improving opportunities for people to work in the sector;
- increasing and enhancing partnerships.

Forestry Commission - Tree Production Capital Grant (England)
£10,000 to £175,000. Private and public sector, environmental NGOs, community tree nurseries. Deadline – 31st May 2023
The Tree Production Capital Grant (TPCG) provides funding to help tree nurseries and seed suppliers invest in projects which improve, expand, automate or mechanise their operations. This will help improve not only the quantity but also the quality, diversity, and biosecurity of supply. The grant is open to tree seed and sapling suppliers of all sizes, as well as new entrants looking to diversify into the sector. Up to £5.1 million of funding is available through the Tree Production Capital Grant, subject to sufficient high-quality bids being received.
The TPCG will provide 50% funding for projects up to a maximum grant value of £175,000.

The Elephant Trust (Grant – UK)
Up to £5,000. Art galleries/institutions. Deadline – 25th June 2023
The Elephant Trust was created to develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts in the UK. It is committed to helping artists and art institutions that depart from the routine and signal new, distinct and imaginative sets of possibilities. Grants awarded usually do not exceed £2,000 but applications up to £5,000 will be considered.
Priority is given to artists in the fine arts and small organisations and galleries who should submit well argued, imaginative proposals for making or producing new work or exhibitions.

Fat Beehive Foundation (Grant – UK)
Up to £2,500. Small charities with income of less than £400,000. Deadline -30th June 2023
The Fat Beehive Foundation offers small grants to small charities for websites and digital products in a mission to help them improve digital presence. Applications are considered quarterly on a rolling basis and the funding priority for this quarter is human rights. Funding programmes are very specific with a focus on hard-to-fund digital expenditure that other funders often won’t cover.

Ford Britain Trust (Grant – UK)
Small grants up to £250. Registered charities, schools, PTAs, not-for-profit organisations. Deadline – 30th June 2023. Large grants £250 - £3,000. Deadline – 31st July 2023
Ford Britain Trust was formed to support communities around Ford locations. Special attention is given to projects that focus on education, environment, children, the disabled and youth activities. Grant applications will be considered for the following purposes:
- Contributions to capital projects;
- capital expenditure items;
- contribution towards the purchase of a new vehicle.

Big Give Women and Girls Match Fund (UK)
Up to £10,000. UK registered charity. 23rd June 2023
Applications are now open to register your charity for the Women and Girls Match Fund. Charities committed to serving women and girls in their communities and those working to improve the lives of vulnerable, disadvantages or underrepresented women and girls within the UK and internationally can apply and for match funding at BigGive.org. The campaign will run around #InternationalDayOfTheGirl from 11th to 18th October and charities seeking to raise £2,500, £5,000 or £10,000 in public donations will have their total doubled by the match funds.

Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant: Supporting Grassroots Live Music (Grant with match funding)
Up to £40,000 over three years. Music venues and promoters.
As part of National Lottery Project Grants, Arts Council England have set aside funding specifically to support the organisations and people involved in hosting and promotion of live music events in venues: Supporting Grassroots live music. £1.5million has been ringfenced until the end of September 2023. After this time, supporting grassroots live music will still be a priority. You need to be able to find at least 10% of the total cost of your project using income from other sources.

Biffa Award – Rebuilding Biodiversity (Grant scheme funding – UK)
£10,000 - £75,000. Fully constituted, charitable or not-for-profit organisations.
The Rebuilding Diversity grant scheme supports a variety of living things and includes all species fo plants and animals and the natural systems and habitats that support them. Preference will be given to projects that have a strong element of public access or inclusion, such as volunteer involvement. Projects must lead to a direct improvement to a habitat or species. Total project value can be no more than £200,000 and 75% of shortfall funding must be secured if Biffa Award is not fully funding the project. A third party contributor should be identified to fund 10% of the application value.

Community Foundation: Environmental Activities (Grant – North East*)
Up to £10,000. VCSE Small organisations.
Grants for Environmental Activities comprises of two funds – The Local Environment Action Fund (LEAF) and The Lawrence Campbell Community First Fund. Applications over £2,000 will be considered by LEAF and need to make a demonstratable change and have an immediate impact on the environment. Funds for £2,000 are likely to be considered by The Lawrence Campbell Community First Fund which provides support for sustainable woodland management, access to nature and wildlife for children and promotes positive mental health through the environment.

Masonic Charitable Foundation – Children and Young People Grant
Small grants - £1,000 - £5,000. Large grants - £10,000 - £60,000. Registered charities.
This grant programme is open to national and local charities helping disadvantaged children and young people overcome the challenges they face. Charities can apply for small grants or large grants depending on their income level, and grants can be for up to three years. Small grants are unrestricted, large grants must be restricted to a project.

Movement for Good (Grant – UK & Ireland)
£1,000. Registered charity, not-for-profit, CIC.
The Movement for Good Awards is an annual programme of giving from Benefact Group, and this year they have pledged £1 million to charities and good causes. Simply fill out a short form to nominate your chosen charitable organisation and the more nominations they receive, the higher the chance of them winning a £1,000 award. Nominations are open until 17th December 2023 and there will be three prize draws taking place in June, September and December.

DCMS South Tyneside Know Your Neighbourhood Fund (Grant – South Tyneside)
£100,000 over two years. VCSE. Deadline – 30th May 2023
Round 2 of the DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) South Tyneside Know Your Neighbourhood Fund is expected to open in late April/early May with up to £50,000 per year available for up to two years. Funding will help communities to participate in local projects which build their skills, wellbeing and social networks. Funders are particularly interested in initiatives that increase volunteering and priority will be given to initiatives tackling loneliness.

Funders Spotlight: Lloyds Bank Foundation: Racial equity funding
Small local charities and community interest companies (CICs) working with people experiencing racial inequity* because of their race or ethnicity can apply for a three-year unrestricted grant of £75,000 with Lloyds Bank Foundation.
Eligible organisations will be led by and work for the communities they serve, providing immediate crisis support, alongside longer term support to help people break free from poverty and achieve their potential. You should currently be delivering these services and have a track record of delivering services to people aged 17 and over for at least one year.

Project: A Street Like This
Grantee: Unfolding Theatre
Funder: The Foyle Foundation
Amount: £10,000
Funds awarded went towards the creation of A Street Like This – a new co-created theatre music production in Sunderland. Delivered in Autumn 2022, A Street Like This was co-created by local residents, award-winning writer Alison Carr, songwriter Ross Millard and Unfolding Theatre. Workshop attendees worked alongside the Unfolding Theatre creative team to co-write songs, input into scriptwriting and learn music, songs and drama together.

We’re excited to announce that in the coming months VONNE will look a little different, as our current (very dated) website is getting a makeover. Our new look site will improve services for members and users, making things easier to access and use.
Over the last year we’ve been making improvements to our popular Membership+, Job Finder and Enhanced Recruitment Services. Alongside this, we’re now evolving both our Membership+ offer and wider services to better meet your needs.
North East Charity Awards are open!
Applications are now open for the annual North East Charity Awards. VONNE are thrilled to be supporting the Uniquely North East award, a category that recognises ‘home-grown’ charities that are focussed on supporting the local communities and local heritage, with their roots planted firmly in our great region.
There are 13 categories to apply for, covering all areas of the industry giving all organisations an excellent opportunity to celebrate accomplishments and gain recognition for your hard work and contribution to local communities.
Big Give Green Match Fund launches
Big Give Green Match Fund launches on 20th April and will run until 27th April, in line with #WorldEarthDay. The fund is designed for charities making an extraordinary difference to come of the biggest challenges facing our planet. Pick a green charity, make a donation, and #GreenMatchFund will DOUBLE it.

Free trees for schools and community groups
The Woodland Trust is once again offering schools and community groups the chance to apply for free trees to plant in their area. The scheme is run annually as part of efforts to plant 50 million trees in the UK by the year 2030. The last round of applications saw around 6,000 free trees distributed amongst 33 organisations in Northumberland alone.

SIA awards £17,600 of confiscated money from criminals to youth charities
Security Industry Authority (SIA) has awarded £17,600 of grants to two youth enterprises, 1000 Black Boys CIC and Young Enterprise through it’s 2022/2023 Grants for Good Causes. The grant is funded from ‘ill-gotten cash’ (proceeds of crime) which is taken from individuals following criminal offences and convictions within the private security industry.

There have been almost 200 responses to The Charity Digital Skills Report survey. Charities and social sector organisations like yours have shared their views about how they're using digital. They've fed back where support and funding are required across the sector, and how the cost of living crisis might be affecting your digital progress.
