Hate Crime Awareness Week 9th to 16th October 2021
Below is an overview of what events will be occurring each day:
Monday 11th October 2021
Key speaker launch followed by an input from David Dove from Durham Constabulary on the launch of the new Hate Crime Support & Report Centre in Darlington.

Tuesday 12th October 2021
What happens when you report a hate crime? What are your options? What training do Police officers receive? How does an investigation proceed?

Wednesday 13th October 2021
Criminal Justice System. How does your experience then translate into an offence going through the various stages to court.
Speakers: Veronica Jordan, Senior Crown Prosecutor CPS North East
Thursday 14th October 2021
What support is available to victims of hate crime, whether or not they choose to pursue a prosecution?
Speakers: Mark Warcup, Victim Care and Advice Service & Benjamin Scott, Cohesion Officer Durham Constabulary
Friday 15th October 2021
Summary of the week and then identifying any gaps in current provision/system including Q&A.
Speakers: Andrew Allison, Darlington Borough Council
These events will run virtually on Microsoft Teams, so you’ll need to provide an email address and the event(s) / time(s) you would like to attend to receive an email invite and links to the sessions.
Each daily session will go out in the morning and afternoon, starting at 10:00 & 13:00 respectively and last for approx. one hour to ensure everyone has a chance to attend if they want to.
