Youthwatch Darlington art work on display at town centre shopping venue
The Cornmill Shopping Centre has unveiled healthy food artwork and a hopscotch with families and young people in Darlington town centre.
A series of fruit and vegetable characters have been designed and coproduced by young volunteers from Youthwatch Darlington and Public Health Children & Young People Lead, Kelly Rose to raise awareness, inspiring young people to make healthier choices.
The new posters offer young children a fun way to learn more about fruit and vegetables. In addition to the new artwork on display a hopscotch will be included as part of a Darlington Borough Council collaboration providing young children with a chance to take part in an activity which promotes exercise whilst visiting the shopping centre.
Kelly Rose from Darlington Borough Council's Public Health Team said:
“It’s exciting to see young people working together on projects that will make a difference and making fruits and vegetables colourful supported by fun affective messages is such a positive approach – well done everyone!”
The new posters and hopscotch are set to raise awareness providing shoppers with an opportunity to consider new ways to celebrate healthier choices.
Susan Young, Centre Manager from the Cornmill said:
“The Cornmill is proud to be displaying this fantastic artwork, which is vibrant and fun, as well promoting an important message to young children. The introduction of the hopscotch provides a fun activity, while at the same time encouraging young children to be active. We hope that this initiative helps young children starting their journey through life to celebrate healthy food choices and encourage exercise.”
