Healthwatch Darlington's November 2020 Volunteer of the Month Announcement - Sue Kirk

Meet Sue Kirk our latest 'Volunteer of the Month' for November 2020 from our team of volunteer 'Health Connectors'.
Sue

This month we selected not one but two volunteers to receive our 'Volunteer of the month' award. We felt it was important to recognise a volunteer from our Health Connectors and Youthwatch Darlington, especially during these uncertain times.

All of our volunteers dedicate their time and energy to support Healthwatch Darlington and we are thankful for each and every volunteer.

Our 'Volunteer of the month' award shines the spotlight on volunteers who have stood out for their enthusiasm and commitment.

We are pleased to announce that Sue Kirk from our Health Connectors and Jessica Mather from Youthwatch Darlington have been selected for November 2020.

Sue Kirk - Health Connector

Sue joined our team as a 'digital volunteer' in Spring 2020 during the first lock down. Sue's role is to assist with gathering information, online activities such as focus groups and Facebook sessions, joining our planning meetings, identifying ways to reach service users in the community.

Despite the challenges of volunteering remotely in unusual circumstances. Sue has become a well loved member of our volunteering team who is willing to go above and beyond to help people in the the town. We recognise not only her valued contribution to Healthwatch Darlington but also her other volunteering roles where she makes such a difference. Congratulations Sue!

How did you first find out about volunteering at Healthwatch Darlington?

I saw an advert on Facebook from Healthwatch Darlington asking for volunteers to join them.

Why did you decide to join the team?

A lack of support when my children were diagnosed with Autism, anxiety, learning disabilities and mental health issues prompted me to want to make improvements for families like us, and through Healthwatch Darlington, we have a voice that can be heard.

What has been a highlight of your volunteering experience so far?

Apart from the award? the way I've been able to collaborate between Healthwatch Darlington and Darlington Support Group. Sharing information which helps service users within both groups has been very beneficial for everyone.

Do you have any tips for anyone considering volunteering for Healthwatch Darlington?

If you want to make a difference in how your healthcare is provided, then come and volunteer with us and join a great volunteering family.

Since joining our Healthwatch Darlington volunteers, Sue has enthusiastically embraced her role helping us to reach those in our community who have needed information and support during the pandemic. We are so grateful for the time and commitment she gives to our organisation and she very much deserves our award this month.

Michelle Thompson, Chief Executive Officer

A huge congratulations to Sue. This recognition is very deserved. Thank you for sharing your time with Healthwatch Darlington and joining us in a very strange time when we have adjusted to working remotely. Your enthusiasm and willingness to help others shines through.
