Spina Bifida Awareness Week 2020

Spina Bifida awareness week launches on Friday 23rd October 2020, it's a great opportunity to help raise awareness of the condition and bring the 'Back to the Front' of people's minds.

Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. Shine enables people to get the best out of life.

What is spina bifida?

Spina bifida literally means ‘split spine’. A fault in the development of the spinal cord and surrounding bones (vertebrae) leaves a gap or split in the spine. The spinal cord has not formed properly, and may also be damaged.
