Young volunteers from Youthwatch Darlington launch new 'Body Image' awareness raising campaign
Earlier in 2020 young people across Darlington took part in our 'Children & Young People's Mental Health' survey. We asked them what every day life issue or event may affect mental health. Overwhelmingly body image was voted as the highest contributing factor.
At Healthwatch Darlington our young volunteers from Youthwatch Darlington wanted to raise awareness about body image and the affects this can have on mental wellbeing amongst younger people.
They have launched an awareness raising poster, gathered advice/information and shared their own experiences to raise awareness. This is to ensure young people know where to go for support.
They have also explored how body image may be particularly difficult to deal with at the moment due to the pandemic.
Join them in their mission to raise awareness by sharing their handy self help poster with young people living in the town.
One thing we know for sure is that young people often do not know where to go for support.
Youthwatch Darlington have gathered advice and information that may help young people living in the town.
You can get more help by visiting their advice and information page.
To raise awareness further one of our young volunteers bravely shared their own personal story related to body image.
You can read more about her story and how body image affects her own life by visiting our blog page.
Follow Youthwatch Darlington on social media to help share their message.
Our young volunteers regularly share information on their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook page so they can reach out to more young people.
Keep an eye out for their posts across the next week as they continue to raise awarenss.
Our young volunteers have shown once again how much of an impact young people can have on making a difference in their community, when sharing ideas and working together on a common goal.
They have also drawn attention to the importance of awareness and effective information sharing.
